The Female Gaze
In 1975, the British film critic Laura Mulvey defined the “male gaze” as male artists, directors, and writers electing to depict women as mere objects of male pleasure and desire. With the history of western art often defined by female nudes painted by men, the nudes in this collection are more focused on the personality and dignity of the sitters.
