Celebrating LGBTQ Artists

Despite being censored for centuries, LGBTQ artists found compelling ways to express themselves. Tamara de Lempicka, the great Polish Art Deco painter, is best known for her portraits of aristocrats and the wealthy, and her friends and lovers. Carmen Mondragon, a Mexican painter, model, and poet active in the first half of the 20th century, painted portraits of her friends and colleagues, including one of a transvestite who always wore the same red dress.
